Raccoon Creek Golf

Raccoon Creek Golf Course
Raccoon Creek is named for the stream that meanders through the course. It is built on the old Grant Ranch, which was originally acquired by Governor James Benton Grant about 1878. Grant was raised in the south, and brought the southern tradition of hunting and shooting with him to Colorado. He soon established a gun club on the ranch. Grant served as governor of Colorado from 1883 to 1885. The Grant Ranch has been active as a working ranch and enjoyed by the family for riding and equestrian pursuits. During World War II it was a breeding center for the U.S. Army Remount Service, providing stud services for the area. One of the stallions was Granville, who ran in the 1936 Kentucky Derby. The sporting history of the Grant Ranch goes back over a century and continues with the golfing tradition of today.
